There are many health and environmental benefits to choosing Soy wax candles as opposed to the more traditionally used paraffin wax used in the majority of store bought candles.

At OLA MAY, all our candles are made from soy wax. Why do we use soy wax for candles making? Because we believe soy candle wax provides the longest, cleanest burn, free from carcinogens, excellent fragrance-holding qualities, and is eco friendly.

Why do we use Soy wax?

Natural - Soy wax is a vegetable wax derived from the soybean plant which is 100% natural and renewable. By contrast paraffin wax is a bi-product of the refinery process for petroleum oil therefore non-renewable and non-environmentally friendly.

Non-Toxic -  Soy wax contain no toxins, carcinogens or pollutants, so it will not release toxins into the air when burnt. This makes soy candles not only cleaner for the environment but also healthier for you. Studies have found that burning paraffin wax candles could cause health problems in the long term since they give off carcinogenic fumes.

Clean Burning -  Soy wax candles produce 90% less soot than paraffin, reducing the amount of indoor air pollution produced. There is less risk of smoke damage to nearby furniture, walls, or ceilings. Keeping the wick trimmed short will also ensure that the candle doesn't smoke and that it burns efficiently. Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours as this causes carbon to collect on the wick and it begins to “mushroom.” This causes the wick to become unstable, the flame gets too large and your candle smokes too much releasing soot into the air and collects around the container.

Last Longer Soy wax candles burn 40-50% longer than Paraffin candles because the wax has a lower melting point. Therefore it will burn cooler, slower and for longer.

Great Fragrance - A candle's scent is emitted into the air from the melted wax pool that surrounds the wick. Because the melting point of soy wax is lower than paraffin, this means that there is usually a larger pool around the wick, resulting in a stronger aroma.

VeganIf you abstain from using animal products, then soy wax candles are for you. So many types of candles use animal products! Beeswax comes from the hives of bees, tallow comes from the fat of animals, and some wax even comes from whales or dolphins. Soy candles are 100% vegan and do not require any animal products in their production or use.
